Runva 1200 VERSES XP 9.5
Was just checking on winches and there is a huge difference in price between the RUNVA 1200 and the WARN XP 9.5.
I would like to know what winch others run and if they are ok , not worried about the high mount ones.
I have a XP 9.5 and was wondering if it was worth changing the motor to the bigger 6hp job, it works great as it is but things
can always be made better. Can these motors be sourced cheaper as well.?? The Runva is 1/3rd the price of the XP and sometimes more, whats with that??Will need to get someone to check but I think I may already have the 6HP motor, the finned end cap depicts the 6HP and smooth end cap is the 4.6HP.

I run the runva 11xp. It's a good winch never had a drama with it. That said they are slower than the warn.
In saying that I am not doing what Darren does so my winch is more of self recovery.

John how often do you use the winch really? Is it worth upgrading?
I've got an Ironman 12,000lb winch at the moment which I think is pretty bloody good actually.

It was more why the big price difference , But Im happy with my XP I only paid $700 brand new for it,
so cant complain. Dont need the speed of a high mount , would be nice though even cutting the grill to make it fit. lol

Because of the Warn label on the winch would be a big part of it. I would guess that the Warn would be a better winch with all their R&D and what not.
But for the price I know I would be buying the Runva, a fair few on the forum have it and rate it highly. I think Mudrunner actually has one on his GU?

Do you think you would fit 35 mtrs of 12mm Dyneema onto an XP 9.5 low mount??

i have the runva 12,000 and its one seriously big solid winch, with it spaced back 20mm to clear the taper of the bar it still only fits by about 3mm into an arb gq winchbar. ive used it to drag my gq through about 100m of axle deep nasty clay single line and it did it easily, while drawing much less power than my old tigerz that it replaced. alos with a 5 year electrical and lifetime mechanical warrrenty how can you go wrong

The runva 9.5 comp winch is a bit more expensive but has a bigger motor than the 12000xp runva. I guess it comes to personal choice and coin factor. If your serious about your winch upgrade your motor but if your not in a rush and just happy to be out in the bush any winch will do. IMO.
Having a winch is a definite benefit when out solo if I didn't have one I wouldn't go by myself.

After a bit of checking my XP 9.5 has the 6hp motor already,
so happy with that. They spool a tad quicker than the 4.6hp models.
I want to run a camera to look at the rope when spooling in case it all coils
up on one side. Ideally I'd like 12mm Dyneema, but dont know how much
it can take 35mtrs would be nice.
The guy from Warn [USA} sent me a heap of stickers and the owners manual in pdf
form. I think a few took him up on his offer.
