Go figure 1 1/2hrs after packing up from fitting rear speakers, the front speakers arrived, hopefully I'll
be able to fit the front ones today, looking forward to poking 4OFF for some hi fi info. What amp to buy etc
I like a sound system with a bit of umpf, not doof
How much did the speakers cost?
I have noticed how shite mine sound.

Now the front are fitted much clearer than OE paper jobs.
Tried doing link thing. I'm hopeless but mob is oz plaza living.
Heaps of speakers I have some outdoor ones from them and a set of 6x9 4 way 600 watt
but not sure if i'll use them or not yet

The less ways a speaker goes the better it will do its job, a set of component speakers or splits as they can be referred to are awesome especially when run off an amp. Then you get a nice little sub and another amp to look after your bass line.
As for 600w this is probably your max output rating, the one your are looking for is nominal output or rms. 4 way speakers are ok for what your are doing with them and will be better than the cheapo factory items. I guess it's more knowing what you want from your stereo than just hooking a amp up.

Thanks NN been talking with 4OFF as he used to do comps etc , I will be getting a 4 channel amp how big I don't know.
Plus didn't want tweeters etc everywhere , its only for my tunes when out of Radio range,
don't need it for camp as I have head unit and USB player in my camper.
Want it to thump a bit but after clarity not doof doof

1. Pinstriped it,
2. Bent the side step
3. Washed it.
And between steps 1 & 3 I had the most amazing day 4wding with family and friends in the Pyrenees. Were first down some freshly opened tracks and saw some amazing sights.
BBQ lunch and more sightseeing.
Oh did I mention the elusive Sambar deer that were barely bothered by three 4wd's, just jumped across the road and then sauntered up the hill and stopped to watch us watching them.

Should put this in the happy thread.

I finished these off today, except for painting. Made for sleeping in the Old Trol on short weekend trips with my local club and with you lot. I still have to make some for the front windows, which will be difficult, because of the shape. The picture doesn't show the stainless flywire glued to the inside of the wood. The fly wire in the slide window is only for dry weather, though.

@ BA or as the Judge likes to call it "Exhibit A"
bag it and tag it

At Mudnut have you seen the rear door sun/wind visors ? mudski has them slimline like what you have done.
Buy them and super glue some Perspex with holes to the base with holes like you have, would never notice them.
front a bit more difficult but doable IMO.
Love the idea BTW no more flys or mozzies filling up the Patrol when away, lol

I'll tell you something though........ it was bloody hard work. First I had to mow the lawn, then turn on the retic so I could find where the pop up were, then cut around them so they were free once more to pop up instead of being restrained by the overgrown grass. I gutted the Old Trol today, because It stunk of mould. There is no prizes for guessing where the water got in. I also found that some of the rubber seals on the plastic inserts in the floor had deteriorated enough to let moisture seep in under the carpet.

BigRAWesty
4th November 2013, 07:36 PM
That's where mine was, just a lot worse..

And check the middle row seat mount bars..

Thanks Kallen. The other big culprits were the holes inside the bottom of the door pillars and the hole into where the door switch lighting wires run into the interior. I will have to find about twenty odd 15mm rubber plugs to stop up the holes all along the top of the sill panels. Water also seeped in through the foot rest and steer column. I have installed my air compressor under the rear passenger seat, but I think I will find a higher position. I'm even thinking of mounting it under the bonnet somewhere, and have a hose into the cab for the intake.

I don't get why they close it either really. It's only to do with the nature reserve, so they should just open the gate at the end back up so we don't have to go through the nature reserve.
But it keeps it a quite area for the few that know how to get there.
So it's a win really. Lol

Simple shs sides and angle centers for the panel to sit in.
Found these simple tailgate hinges, and set it up that when the panel is down or up the panel is secure between the shs, nut when the struts are removed and panel at 90degrees it can be slid out to place elsewhere.
Gas struts are 90nM kitchen ones, $16 a pair I think..

Gave it a wash, then sat and looked at it. I have a meeting with an engineer on friday to discuss engineering the long arms, new shock towers, and an antirock sway bar, if I can get these approved it will take the ute to a whole other level in offroad capability and on road handling. I think you'll find that the kit is made to fit multiple vehicles, one being the GU. There would have been more nuts and bolts than needed. I'm guessing the ones with the wire are for one of the other models so that you could reach in some space (e.g. inside the chassis rail) and hold the nut while you got the bolt onto it. Not certain, but that's what makes sense to me. Certainly my kit had enough "other bits" to get it all bolted up without needing to use the nuts with the wire on them.

well i was going to replace the cheap plastic guard in front of the steering arms with a new one from bush skinz... had a look and noticed the the right hand side that bolts that hold it in place ( and location of new bolts ) are missing their heads.... the left hand side one came off easy ( after lots of wd40 ) but the other bolt twisted off with no effort at all.... so now i am stuck with 3 snapped bolts...Bugger...
i will have to go to the local mechanic to get out as i dont have a drill or easy outs.. once fitted i will post picks

Parksy
19th November 2013, 02:33 PM
Looking good westy. Where did you get those tail lights?? What is your step 2 for the sound deadening?

Edit: Malgreen, you could try and drill them out. Use a pin punch and knock a mark in the center of the bolt, then use a small drill bit to make a hole the entire way through the bolt. Then go up the next size and repeat, if you're lucky, you won't have to go to big and the bolt will wind it's way into the chassis. Usually it gets to the one size before you start drilling out the thread and it will remove itself.

nah not yet mate...putting it together to long term tour...but hope to eventually..the engine bay was pretty clean when I got it...with all the head and manifolds off it made it easier to detail it..plus the exhaust is new to help it look better...but I have always been fussy with engine bays....below is the engine bay of my last project I put together..

anyway back on subject

today put new fan and new viscous clutch back on..did the timing..oil change and filters...took it for a run

I sold it to buy a new motorbike TPC...It was just one of the classic cars I put time and money into...It was originally an ex PMG ute....I bought it already painted red and with the 351 windsor in it and then went from there....I had it for about 2 years after it was finished....couldnt park it anywhere...everything in the end was genuine GT on it including the interior...so after having to get a third fuel cap and taking it off when parked and leave it in the cab....it became a pain in the arse

bugger me , now everyone wants to steal GQ's ...lolololololololol

Yup mud in the radiator can you find a servo and hose it out. It will take heaps, may even need to pull the radiator out. Had to on my GQ and wifes Prado

Looks are deceiving mate. It sits between the radiator and shroud. I'd unscrew the shroud and hose it threw..
It might not seem much, but could be blocking 25% or more..

it will be the one on the engine side, around the fan. IMHO if you have/can get it home, pull the rad out and spend some good time thoroughly hosing out the fins (front to back), you will be surprised how much junk comes out.

Just take the radiator out and take it in to a radiator shop, for about $70 they will flush it completely.

That's not true exactly. My car only blows a tiny bit of smoke on very rare occasions and it's making a lot more power than yours. That means that if I had the means I could be pouring more fuel into it and making more power, or I could turn boost down a bit and keep the same power I have now, but my EGTs would go up. I'd actually be keen to try turning it down to say 14 and see how much the EGTs change, but I took it to a professional for a reason, because he knows a lot more than me and he recommended to keep it at 16psi until I do more fuel upgrades.
