Hi guys
Sorry if this has been asked before ( if it has please link me the thread as I cant seem to find one)
but who do you use for offroad insurance?
I just took out insurance through Real insurance who I was with before getting my patrol to find out after going through the pds that they wont cover anything off road, and seeing as my car is still under finance I dont want to risk it.
Who would you guys recommend for insurance that WILL defnitely cover off road.
Im not going to be doing anything crazy its more for when I go out to kakadu etc and have to drive down what are classed as 4wd tracks so i know if anything where to happen my arse is covered.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
I've been with NRMA, RACV and now with RACQ and they all cover off-road 100% as long as you are on a "gazetted track or road". That is - they won't cover what they term "bush-bashing" - I've clarified this legally as well and as long as the track you are on is mapped and deemed a 4wd track you are covered.
There are some (Shannon's) who cover you for everything I believe but for lower premiums I like RACQ.

I with Racv and speaking to them bout off roading. They said specifically that as long as the vehicle is a purpose built 4wd you are covered anywhere as long as they deem the incident not to be reckless. But proving reckless driving whilst off road is hard
Never argue with an idiot, cos he'll bring you down to his level, then beat you with experience. Y2K

But proving reckless driving whilst off road is hard
I agree - I hate ambiguity or "grey" areas in contracts. Hence why I like the "gazetted road" definition. But to be fair I think RACV, RACQ and NRMA are all pretty above-board and I've never had an issue with an insurance claim with any of these. Plus multi-policy discounts and membership discounts make them pretty attractive.

Yeah I've been with them a couple of months... Covered for market value plus all accessories. My excess is $1000 less than my previous insurer plus the premium is 400 dollars less per year. Much better coverage too

Yep , and they were really very good in every way when it came to making a claim, i was under the impression i was covered for any off roading as long as its not in any sort of "competition", gazetted rd was not stipulated to me, my crash was on a rd, but its not on google maps, and so i never could find out what its actually called to this day.

Just say'n ;)
I was fording a river in the GQ in the early days and ran off into the deep stuff and put the water above the roof on the drivers side and to the bottom of the glass on the passengers side! Bloody Deep! It got to my Chest inside the car and the dash was below water. Fortunately i have a snorkel and did not stall the engine. I was dragged out backwards and drove it home very wet.
Not a dent in the car. I washed the outside and drove it into the claim centre on the Monday morning. Got out of the car and the assessor walked over and asked what was wrong with my nice clean car. I opened the door and said "She got Wet" I drowned it in the river yesterday.
I got a call at 2:30pm on that same day to tell me they wrote it off. Would i like to buy it back and they have a cheque written out for me. I picked it up and drove it home at 4:30pm on that day with a big cheque.
I re-registered the car 3 weeks later (Big Job!!!) and am still driving it today.
AAMI was Amazing!

Through the NSW 4WD association I am insured through TCIS Brokers in Adelaide.
This year Alliance is the insurer and the vehicle is insured "low tide to low tide" that means ANYWHERE in Australia.
The mods and accessories are all insured as well.
Put a 4B on its side a few years back on a unknown / unnamed / unlisted / non gazzetted road and fixed with no issues.

Just called AAMI and took out full comp through them.
They've assured me I'm covered no matter where I am on road or off throughout Australia and that I don't need to be on a named track.
I pay $200 per month which is a little more then my previous insurer but As long as Im fully covered Im happy.
