Just been trying to help a grey nomad with an over heating problem in his 06 4.2 tdi towing 1500kg poptop Jayco van. Hes had the radiator over hauled rodded, 3 inch exhaust fitted , new thermostat dyno tuned twice and can't get over 90 k ph without overheating, to top it off he's come accross the Nullabour with no air con as it cuts out, 40 plus in the cab . poor bugger...
so i compared it to my 2000 dx 4.2d and noticed the following:
The radiator is a lot smaller accross the top than my Dx and same thickness.about 4inch shorter on each side, his has electric fan.
Also there was not much resistance when turning fan by hand compared to mine.
What is the correct dimensions for the Radiator?
How much resistance should it have ( the vicous fan hub) when cold
The shroud is smaller and fan is a 8 blade , mine is 7 blades and bigger diameter& bigger shroud.
The thought occured that maybe its been in a bingle and wrong cooling system fitted.
Others towing with same model have no problems , your input would be appreciated , Bazz Port Hedland
