g'day.
i have a tirfor t516 hand winch.
in need new wire rope for it and im getting stuffed around by people who just have no idea.
the original wire rope was 11.5mm its a hard to get size. what i have found is ridiculously expensive.
can i use 11mm or 12mm as these are more common.
any help would be appreciated.

That would be good to know.
This website says that the rope has been developed specifically for the tirfor.

"TIRFOR wire rope The wire rope for the TIRFOR machine is not a standard production rope; it has been developed specifically to suit the TIRFOR machine. TIRFOR wire ropes are supplied on a reeler for ease of transport and storage."
You've obviously got the T516. Have you tried local 4by shops for a replacement?

G`day da`maverick
You will have to use the correct size cable as the the collets which grip the cable when you leaver the cable through the machine will not work correctly even if it is half a mill either way, and in a winching situation hang the expence it`s safety first.

Try either STENHOUSE LIFTING at Stapylton Qld or ROBERTSONS AND SONS, you can google them and they should be able to send the correct cable to you.

Agree with the above... Tirfor T516 cable has to be 11.5mm. The winch operation relies on the correct cable
The Ebay cable is a tad dodgy IMHO. It is the correct dia so should be OK but it has an eye swaged on what would be the "feed thru" end. The Tirfor cable needs a clean taper on the feed end so you will have to sort that out if you buy the Ebay cable.
Get a quote from Nobles or whomever for the genuine article then make a decision from there
