I need new windscreen wipers. Anyone have any preferences for a brand on your GU? Better to get the complete blades or just the rubber inserts? Or are they all much the same?

If the bodies are fine the just replace the blades.
Look for genuine rubber. You pay a little more but they work much nicer

Trico blades are what I use. They work well and last a while. As for complete blade assemblies, or your GU, use OEM, atleast you know they will fit. But this is something that rarely wears out....

I have a mate the replaces windscreens and he told me never use the twin type blades
I think Im like Mark and use the Trico brand they are grey in colour and work great
I change them every year regardless

Hi Cuppa

Don't use the silicone types as when they age, they leave a film on the windscreen which is almost impossible to get off. I've always just replaced the rubber.

Have fitted some 100% natural rubber Trico refills, which has made a huge difference. Now I need to clean the inside of the windscreen. It’s ok until looking into the sun & then every smudge & finger mark shows up. Have tried Windex window cleaner which helped, but I can’t seem to get an unblemished crystal-clear finish. It’s certainly good enough, I’m just a bit irritated I can’t get it better. (Maybe I could post this in TD’s new thread ..... assuming of course that ‘a bit irritated’ might might be close to ‘ticked off’, & certainly lower down the ‘narked continuum’ than ‘angry’). ;) LOL

I have been told to never use Windex as it leaves a residue on the window, I always use metho and it works great.

Yep warm water and metho and these special micro fibre cloths specificly for windows. Best ever! And also no amonia so it wont fade tints and those cloths wont scratch the tints

What's wrong with the twin blades? Not had any issues with mine

I think more to do with the plastic backed blades when the rubber wears the plastice scratches the windscreen. I only fit rubber backed blades and only in the older cars that take the 8mm steel backed ones

Not on the car, but I used to use one of their products on motorcycle hemet visors.

Having just watched the video in that link, I think the issue I’ve had was because I was doing the cleaning in the sun. Not real hot, but enough to evaporate the cleaner leaving a smudges. Even with Isopropyl Alcohol. (Thought I’d give it a try, as I’m out of metho at the moment.). Didn’t find the vinegar & newspaper any better than Windex tbh.

Might give that Rain X a go & their ‘Glass Scrub’ product too.

I've got some 90% alcohol here to clean it with if I don't drink it first, but I never had any luck with wipers. Tried silicone ones, twins, rubber...they're all crap. Maybe I'm buying the wrong ones so I will try the Trico refils and see how it goes

beware of that, I try'd it on all windows before hitting the high country. The windows attracted the dust like a magnet. never again

X2 ^^^^^

Rain X and its family found it's way into automotive use from the world of aviation.

It doesn't take kindly to swept areas, the blades eventually wear off the coating and if you don't keep it up and it gets patchy it is shithouse mouse.

It is also the worlds best dust magnet as others mentioned

The wipers on my Corolla suck. I think it's more to do with the sandblasted windscreen, and I reckon somebody has used solid steel wiper blades before, because there are huge wiper blade scratches in it.

Next year add winscreen insurance onto it and get it replaced witha brand new spanka...$50 extra a year

Not sure if they offer it as an extra for 3rd party insurance.
I come off my P plates next week and will do a ring around and see what I can come up with

Metho for cleaning glass with newspaper!

Works a treat..

I've never understood how the inside gets so dirty though. Never touch the inside with my fingers but as with you it always seems smudged up in the sun.

wives and wedding rings are a problem on the inside, especially if they.

Cut and polish the front of you're windscreen, works wonders
the reason why not to use twin blade jobs it grit gets in the middle and is dragged over a dry surface causing scratches.
and just use water in the water container, All tips from someone that fits windscreens
