Basically i am sure its a TD42 clip, BUT i am after an exhaust which will give a similar turbo whine.
Anyone has clips of ZD30 with similar turbo whine like this ???

You can see the badge its a 3.0 Di. Any straight through exhaust will help, although by the sounds of that clip he may have scrapped the vnt in favour of a wastegated turbo as the vnt's by what I have heard have a different sound

That doesn't sound like a ZD30 to me...
I've always chosen an exhaust for power/economy benefits, not for sound.

Try 4" pipe with no muffler that should do the trick.

thats a ball bearing turbo for sure. the switzer turbos that come with a denco kit sound like that
removing the muffler will help with the sound aswell.

Just drop your exhaust as close to the center as possible start in and give it a rev. If u like it go get a straight pipe made up.

Hard too believe that is a 3.0l sound. I know it has a 3l badge but it has too be a 4.2...surely!

ditch the resonators, straight pipe no muffler no nuthin. you wont replicate that sound as I think the VNT turbos are journal bearing. but you'll get the most out of your turbo sound as you can get with a straight through

Try 2.75" or 3" with no mufflers it will be closer to that sound.

Get a 3 inch straight then it will whistle its head of and boost earlier

I was thinking about a straight through with a sports muffler to get the tinnines out, but worried about getting pinned with the po po.
Has anyone got any info on how much if any, there is in performance gains in say, a stock cat dump with a straight through, a 2.75 boadesert exhaust and say a 3" with a high flow cat, vs one without a cat.
Does keeping the stock dump with a straight through pipe, limit the performance greatly, not that i am after all out power.

Diesel have particulate filters, the better it breaths the louder the whistle and as for being pinned for noise well thats the risk u have to take coz your chasing a particular note.

I'm running a td42 turbo straight 3" inch exhaust no mufflers no cat, its not that loud either, can only really hear the turbo whistle inside. A vehicle inspector said it will have no trouble passing roadworthy and being a diesel there is no restriction on sound limits.

My issue is the cats or particular filters. If I remove these itsilegal

Yep, depending on what state I believe its around 4grand if you get busted. As for diesel-mates comment on the inspector, I think he needs to go back to school. Just because its an oil burner does not mean you can have it as loud as you please...

The rules for emmition and noise does not include diesels before 1995

^^^ did not know that nice.
OK so the question, If i keep the stock dump, how much performance loss is t vs say a high flow dump filter thing?
Is a 3" straight through give much grater performance over 2.5"

If you already have a catalyic converter installed from factory then you will atleast need to put one in the system. Go for a high flow cat system. In regards to your dump pipe from your turbo you may need to upgrade it, depends how restrictive it is. I would remove the stock dump and get a 3" inch dump to 3" straight pipe. Your best bet is taking your car to a performance shop and telling them what you want. I live in the tweed area and used "On road performance + parts" in chinderah and would highly recommend.

Living in Hobart and going to about 5 exhaust places, all they do is buy one in, no one here has a bloody clue. I managed to find ONE decent exhaust place whcih took me though some decent options.
I have found that exhaust places are not what they use to be, really just buy in onsell type.
I think the U dump is fairly restrictive but not as bad as the rest of it all

Go a 3" straight all the way through then :) your local exhaust shop should be able to fab up something, they must be lazy... Btw a full 3" straight exhaust including dump and pyro fitting cost me $760.

I don't think you'll get 3" straight off the turbo as the 3 bolt flange doesn't allow you to go that big. My system is 2.5" out of the turbo and sizes up to 3" out of the cat.

That sounds very similar to my di. I just have a straight through 3" exhaust with a small muffler. The thing that really helps with the turbo whirl is putting a dawes and needle valve and upping the spool rate low down.
I get 10psi from around 1500 rpm with 16 psi at 2700 rpm.
Give me a yell of you'd like to hear it. I'll record a sound clip for you.
